We’ve launched a new electric vehicle tariff that we believe is the best in Britain. If you’ve already got an EV or you’re thinking about getting one, here’s why you should do your charging at home with Ecotricity:

EV 10 reasons thumb 2

1. Let’s talk money. With our new EV tariff, you’ll be able to charge your car overnight for an average of just 8 pence per kWh. That’s seriously good value for the deepest green energy around. (Note that owing to the way that Britain’s energy system works, some regions will be a little cheaper that 8 pence, while some will be a little higher - but we’re talking pennies.)

2. It’s open to everyone. We believe in playing fair, so we’ve made sure that you don't have to have a specific type of electric vehicle or a particular charger – as long as you’ve got a smart meter, you can join this tariff. In fact, you don't even have to have an EV - and you can also choose to take your gas supply on this tariff.

3. Lock in our best price. Sign up for a year with our EV tariff and we’ll protect you from price rises. No matter what happens to gas and oil prices in the wider world, you’ll always be able to charge your car for an average of 8p per kWh with green electricity. Now that’s what we call peace of mind.

4. Get amazing customer service. Don’t just take our word for it -  we’re a Which? Recommended Energy Provider for 2024 and we’ve also been a Which? Eco Provider for the last three years.

5. Help us end fossil fuels. Our electricity is 100% deep green – made from the sun and the wind. We generate as much as we can on our wind and sun parks, and buy certified green energy for the rest.

6. Bag some serious savings. Citizens Advice estimates that charging an EV at home increase your energy usage by 100%! Using our super-cheap night rate will save you a whole lot of money.

7. Reduce pollution in your neighbourhood. Every time you drive somewhere, even if it’s an electric vehicle, pollutants are released into the atmosphere such as rubber fragments from tyres. Charging at home instead of driving to a charger means fewer miles, which leads to a healthier environment for humans and wildlife alike. And of course, our deep green electricity is much better for the planet than fossil fuel energy.

8. Make life easier for yourself. If you’re not already charging your EV at home, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for. Our cheap nighttime electricity will save you money and you won’t have to drive to a charger to fill up your battery – that means less hassle, and less wear and tear on your car.

9. Protect the natural world. Wildlife and ecosystems in this country are at breaking point, owing to climate change caused by fossil fuels, and the pollution and habitat destruction caused by their extraction. Our deep green solar and wind parks generate clean electricity in harmony with nature, helping to boost biodiversity in Britain.

10. Help make Britain greener. We’re not-for-dividend, meaning we invest all our profits into building more sources of deep green energy across Britain. Join us and make a difference!
