We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been named a Which? Recommended Provider for Energy Companies 2024.

This is a huge accolade for us. This recommendation is only earned by companies that pass through 15 categories of Which?’s criteria and that are also highly rated by customers, scoring at least 70% in the customer satisfaction ratings. We received four stars for our overall customer service and quality of communications about energy costs.

This year, only three energy companies have been named as Which? Recommended Providers. Which? review UK energy companies annually. The results have been published in the February 2024 edition of their magazine and also as an online feature on the Which? website.

How the assessment works

Which? run an energy satisfaction survey for customers and also undertake their own independent assessment, which is a detailed analysis of energy companies' practices.

They rate energy companies against a set of 15 criteria across three key areas: how well they conduct customer service, how they deal with complaints and how they support customers in need. It’s a thorough set of tests – and only the best energy companies come out on top.

On our customer service, Which? say: “In our assessment, Ecotricity’s customer service setup scored well, with a variety of ways to get in touch that are monitored beyond standard working hours and days.

Which? Recommended Providers must achieve a 70% customer score and score above average in the Which? Assessment.

The customer score is based on satisfaction and likelihood to recommend. Customers also rated aspects of service, which are presented as star ratings. The Which? Assessment score looks at supplier practices and procedures and is based on: customer service (30%), supporting customers who need it (30%), complaints performance (30%) and performance against 2022 smart meter targets (10%).

We received a customer score of 71% and 72% in the Which? Assessment.

Dale Vince OBE said: “Achieving the coveted Which? Recommended Provider status is a big deal. We’re not just Britain’s greenest energy company, now our customers have put us in the top ranks of electricity suppliers for our service.

What makes Ecotricity different is we use the money we make to build new sources of green energy instead of paying dividends. We use energy bills to build windmills, sunmills and now green gasmills. The more customers we have, the more we can build.”

Anita Yandell-Jones, Ecotricity’s Chief Customer Officer, says: “I am thrilled that our service to our customers has been recognised by Which?. This is true recognition of not only being Britain’s greenest energy company but one that ensures our customers are at the heart of everything we do.

Which? only endorses the very best products and services. And as a completely independent organisation, being rated as a Which? Recommended Provider reflects how our customers rate us and the service we provide.

We think the best thing about being a Which? Recommended Provider is that it will help more people discover Ecotricity – and why we’re Britain’s greenest energy company.

As a not for dividend company, the money we have - all of it! - goes into our mission to green up Britain. Everyone who joins us helps to replace fossil fuels with green energy.
