Technology supporting Radio Teleswitch is being phased out starting 30 June 2025
If your current electricity meter switches between peak and off-peak tariff rates, such as Economy 7 or 10, or it automatically turns on heating or hot water, you’ll need to upgrade your RTS meter to the latest smart meter which can support this going forward. This upgrade is free of charge.
How do I know if my meter is affected?
You don’t need to do anything yet. We, or our third-party engineers from Calisen or AES, will contact you to arrange your smart meter upgrade. You might have a RTS meter if:
There is a boost button on your meter
There is a separate switch box next to your meter
You have an on peak and off-peak tariff, i.e. Economy 7 or 10
Your home is heated by electric or storage heaters.
Note that RTS meters can be credit or PAYG meters. When you upgrade, you’ll find that a smart meter top up is much easier – you can do it on your phone, tablet or computer!
What happens if my meter is not exchanged?
Your heating and hot water might be affected and left continually off or on. We want to avoid this situation, so please book your appointment as soon as you hear from us.
Radio Teleswitch FAQs
Radio Teleswitching Service (RTS), it is a long wave radio signal, that allows your meter to switch between peak and off-peak tariffs and controls your heating and hot water.
The nationwide RTS switch off date is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
Some set ups are more complex than others and we’ll need extra time to plan your exchange. You should hear from us soon. We might contact you asking for photos of your meter and wiring.
We’ll install new generation smart meter (SMETS2).
