Lynch Knoll, Gloucestershire
Our first turbine gets a face lift
18th April 2008
Lynch Knoll was our first ever turbine, we finished building it on Friday the 13th of Dec 1996. It has
been
happily turning for 11 years until it was damaged in a recent storm with wind speeds of over 60 mph.
New parts were delivered this week and cranes (to fit them). The blades and hub have all been replaced. The work's been completed in record time -
taken less than two days to take the existing blades and hub off and lift the new ones into place. We've had a camera man up there catching this
historic moment for posterity. We'll post the film up here as soon as we've got it edited.
This machine has been working day in and day out for the last 11 years - in fact it works more hours per year than a typical car does in a 20 year
lifetime, the odd breakdown in effectively 220 years of car lifetime equivalent is perhaps to be expected. Wind turbines are amazing machines when
compared to any other machine in the modern world. This one has another 20 years left in it, now it's 'back on the road'.
